New Project Approved for Comparative Study Between Brazil & Cuba

University and National System of Innovation: A comparative study Brazil – Cuba, is a two-year project (January 2006 – December 2007) that has been approved by a joint commission formed by MES (Minister of Higher Education of Cuba) and CAPES (federal Brazilian agency for supporting post graduate programs, Minister of Education of Brazil).

Main objective
The main objective of this project is to contribute for a deeper understanding of the evolving third role of the academic institutions in their national contexts.

Training Course in Development of Innovation Systems in Tanzania

With the support of Sida/SAREC, College of Engineering and Technology the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania organized a one-week training course (September 12-16, 2005) involving 50 persons (from Government, industry and academia), on the Development of Innovation Systems and Innovative Clusters. Resource persons included Ifor Ffowcs-Williams from Cluster Navigators in New Zealand; Lars Christensen from the Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy (Karlstad, Sweden); Lena Trojer of Blekinge Institute of Technology; and VINNOVA-Sweden. 8 cluster initiatives were identified for development.
